The Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday reported that it is almost done filling up the 61,510 new teacher items this year.

The DepEd said that as of Thursday, a total of 55,848 items or 90.79 percent have been filled mainly due to a streamlined hiring process.

Under the previous practice, the entire recruitment and hiring process takes approximately eight months.

By working closely with the Civil Service Commission and the Professional Regulation Commission, the DepEd was able to reduce the hiring process to five months.

It said that some school divisions and regions were able to fill up more than half of their allotted new teaching positions within the next three months.

Some 102,603 new teaching positions have been created since 2010, 91 percent of which are already occupied by new hires, the DepEd added.
