MANILA, Philippines – Sutherland Global Services, one of the world’s largest BPO (business processing outsoucing) firms headquartered in Rochester, New York, announced yesterday a $50-million investment here with the establishment of BPO campus in a three-hectare facility in Carmona to expand its growing operation in the country.

The expansion was announced by Dilip Vellodi, Sutgherland Chairman and CEO, at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Campus yesterday in the presence President Benigno Aquino who was the principal guest.

Sutherland also announced it would hire an additional 8,000 people for its new facility.

In the Philippines, Sutherland already has a strong presence with over 13,000 people. When the current expansion is completed and once the campus becomes fully operational, Sutherland would have had a significant expansion to its headcount in the Philippines.

Globally, Sutherland is one of the world’s largest pure-play BPO companies with over 30,000 people working out of its 35 operations centers and 10 countries (US, Philippines, India, UAE, Egypt, Bulgaria, UK, Canada, Mexico, Colombia).

Since its launch in the Philippines in 2005, Sutherland has seen a rapid ramp up of its BPO operations in the country growing from 0 to 13000 people in just 7 years.

Currently, over 70% of the company’s services are delivered out of the “New Wave” cities. This pioneering BPO initiative in the provinces has been led by Sutherland in partnership with the government. It has facilities in Manila, Clark and Naga City. It plans to put up another operation in Legaspi City.

Commending Sutherland on its path-breaking campus announcement, Mr. Aquino said: “Sutherland’s exponential growth in the Philippines has been marked by a drive to be best in the industry. We truly appreciate the rapid growth Sutherland has achieved in our country over the last seven years providing significant employment opportunities to our talented young workforce.”

For his part, Vellodi cited the country’s favorable investment climate.

“A favorable economic environment, availability of high quality talents, a robust infrastructure and business friendly government policies have been prime drivers for our rapid expansion in the country. The Carmona campus will be an integrated delivery center for our global clients, he said.
