CBCP urges solon to pass job-generating laws

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) urged newly elected lawmakers to craft laws that would help generate employment in the country so workers would no longer be forced to go abroad, where they may end up being abused by their employers.

According to Bishop Ruperto Santos, who heads the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People, while it is of “great service” to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to pass measures that protect and promote their rights, incoming officials should also strive to make laws that would help create jobs here so workers “will never be forced to seek jobs abroad and leave their loved ones.”

Santos made the appeal on Sunday following the brutal killing of household service worker Constancia Lago Dayag.
