JCCIPI-JICA Seminar on the Improvement of Transport Logistics through Batangas Port

On April 16, 2012, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) organized a seminar at the JICA Auditorium, RCBC Plaza Makati on encouraging shippers to use Batangas Port.
Construction of the P10 billion Batangas Port Container Terminal was completed in 2008 and funded by a Japanese ODA loan. Despite its proximity to export zones in industrial zones in Calabarzon, the Batangas Port has been largely unutilized. The Port was promoted for its advantages in facility quality, access, cost, and time savings for exports and imports.
In January 2012, MCC Lines started regular weekly service of container feeder vessel from Singapore to Batangas to Kaohslung. Topics discussed at the seminar included: shipping services by MCC-Maersk, terminal services by ATI, trucking services by Nippon Express, and “users voice” by Nestle. PEZA DG Lilia de Lima discussed ways to increase export cargo volume at Batangas and stressed the advantages of using the port.
Arangkada Philippines recommend a firm policy to shift international container shipment volume from Manila to Batangas and Subic to decongest the Manila Port (Infrastructure: Seaports; Recommendation F) and to promote the port of Batangas for CALABARZON-destined shipments (Logistics; Recommendation A).
