Typhoon Haiyan (aka Yolanda): Message to the American Business Community From U.S. Embassy Manila

November 13, 2013 at 18:46

U.S. Embassy Manila has received numerous inquiries from American organizations wishing to contribute to Typhoon Haiyan (aka Yolanda) relief operations. Following a request from the Government of the Philippines, the U.S. Government is actively responding to the crisis, bringing civilian and military assets to assist and coordinate with the Philippine Government’s operations.
While it is not the position of the U.S. Embassy to suggest whether individuals or organizations should contribute, in response to queries we provide the following information without endorsement for those who are interested in order that they may make informed decisions about where to direct their resources.
Generally speaking, what is most needed during this time is cash donations to the professional relief organizations. Cash donations allow disaster relief organizations to purchase exactly what is needed, when it is needed, from established supply chains, and to procure supplies near the affected area, cutting down on transportation time and cost. If you or your organization is interested in making a monetary contribution, take a look at a list of relief organizations below who are accepting cash donations.
Organizations with specific assets that are needed for short-term, immediate relief operations, such as transportation, water, food, tents, and medical supplies, can contact the Embassy’s economic section for assistance in making such donations: ManilaEcon@state.gov [+63](2)301-2000/2280.  The U.S. Commercial Service Philippines can also pass on business-related assistance (equipment) to the appropriate resources.  They can be contacted at [email protected].
For updates on Typhoon Haiyan relief, check in periodically with the U.S. Embassy’s website at https://manila.usembassy.gov/ . There is a special link on our home page with more information on donations.
